Friends

Our art activities continue to center on representing ourselves and our new friends we are making at school.
We interviewed everyone with some simple questions and received some fun and interesting answers. We can get to know people by asking questions and learning more about them.

We chose a boy or girl figure to represent ourselves and then chose a friend at school and their corresponding figure. Friendships form quickly at preschool!

Three more friends shared the All About Me bucket this week.

This exercise allows each child to speak in front of the group and share some of their favorite things.

It also gives everyone else the chance to be a listener and ask questions.

We decorated our figures, adding hair and clothing with colored markers.
The weather was perfect for playground time and we took advantage of it everyday.

Fresh air and sunshine are essential ingredients to a great day.

We practiced some grown up roles in the beauty shop and the housekeeping corner.

It was a week of recognizing our friends at school and continuing to share about ourselves too.

Ask your child to name a friend at school.

Our First Week

We spent out first two days exploring our room and everything in it.  It was a very positive first week with friends getting to know a new room, teacher, and classmates.

The art easel is always available with paint, markers, or some other type of medium.
Dramatic Play is also available each day. In this center, children use their imaginations and role play scenes from everyday life.
We played around with numbers and letters.

We practiced sharing space and materials on the first day!

Ms. Amy helped us draw our faces on a mural for our wall. Our first group art project is already hanging for us to admire.

Some "new" items were also available.

Scissors were unfamiliar to some of our friends but the interest level to investigate them was quite high!
Many choices were single participant activities. Children worked solo at these centers and completed them alone or with the guidance of a teacher.
Other center choices invited more than one child to be involved. The kitchen area quickly became a busy place as cooking and cash registers covered the table.

Group time was very successful. We learned the sign for "friend". Our goal is to see every child in our classroom as a friend.

We listened well at story time.
Snack was delicious and healthy.

Getting Ready for School!

We moved into a new classroom over the summer.

We cleaned and arranged and sorted.

It was lots of work to get everything into place and create a classroom ready for busy hands and feet.

We sent a postcard to all our new friends. Did you find one in your mailbox?

We had several of our new friends and their families come to our Open House to meet us and take a look around.

It was a fun time to explore and see all the things there are to do in our new room.

The sensory table was very popular and the kitchen area was busy with cooking.

We found our own hooks to hang our school bags! So many fun animal shapes and colors  on our wall.

If you weren't able to attend the Open House, we 'll see you the first day of school!

There's a lot of fun waiting for you here at Lafayette Academy Preschool. See you September 6th.

End of the Year

We enjoyed a few farm-related art activities and read alouds during our last few days of school.

Roosters and pigs were painted. We glued some chicken feed for our birds and stamped the word P-I-G with our letter stampers.

Our water colors are such a perfect quick-drying paint for the last week of school.

Carson's grandmother came back to help us plant our sprouts from the window into dirt.

We hope they find a sunny spot at your home to continue growing!

We completed our Memory Books and looked all the way through one at group time.
Everyone is excited to bring them home to share.

We can't believe how quickly our school year has come to an end.
To celebrate (and because it was cold and raining), we took our last day of school to The Puzzle Dome.

We played on bouncy houses and giant inflatable slides.
We bowled and played minature golf.
We ran, climbed, laughed and even took out a few minutes to eat some lunch.

Thanks to all our parents who were able to make last minute change of plans and attend our field trip.
It was a fun way to end the year.

We hope you have a safe and relaxing summer!

Gardening

We had a special visitor this week.
Carson's Grandmother shared some information about seeds with us.

She showed us several different types of seeds and what was hidden inside the shells.

She also showed us the book, Seed Soil, Sun, which was full of beautiful photographs and interesting facts.
Then we got a chance to start some seeds ourselves.

We'll check on them next Monday to see what's happened.
Our artwork centered around the beautiful blossoms that we see everyday in our yards, fields, and florist shops.

We cut, glued, colored, and painted a variety of flower forms.
Our open-ended artwork made for some unique compositions.

Some of this lovely work is in our Memory Books that will be coming home next week.

We even tasted seeds!

Many of our friends tried both types of sunflower seeds and most of them liked the special snack.

We sequenced the growth cycle of a plant for our math experience. First, second, third, and last is pre-math experience and skill work.
We were thrilled to play outside during the beautiful sunny days this week.
Everyone enjoyed the fresh air and room to run!
