Our First Week of School!

We had two busy days just getting to know our classroom and our new classmates and teachers.
Everyone moved around the centers during Free Play time and found their favorite places to explore.








We had a very busy kitchen with a crew of chefs creating pizzas and birthday cakes.


We discovered some cool things in our science tray and shared the sound of the ocean.







Routines are already being established and followed with ease.













The weather was just perfect for some outside fun on our playground. We share it with the other 3s & 4s so it's extra nice to see friends from that room as well.













Group time was very musical with rhythm sticks, songs, and fingerplays.















One of the favorite things about group time is the "All About Me Bucket". Everyone will have a turn soon to share with the class. Be watching for our big orange bucket to come home with your child!

Open House

Open House was a grand success! Many students and their families were able to attend and visit the classrooms.








Here are a few of our friends who were able to stop and smile for the camera on that busy night.

It was fun to see everyone and meet so many new friends.

Thanks for coming by and taking care of all the "Back to School" business. Thanks for your patience as the rooms became crowded with so many "big people".

Teachers Getting Ready for School

All the teachers and staff at Lafayette Academy have been extra busy preparing for a new school year. We have a total of 16 faculty this year and 10 classes!













Our first staff meeting of the year has us ready to go and excited about the beginning of school.









We were trained in CPR by one of our local firefighters (and the dad of one of our adorable students). Every faculty member will have CPR certification. Safety is a top priority at school.

COOKING week at LAP Camp

Cooking and eating were our favorite activities this week at camp.We made several foods all by ourselves.











Our songs at group time focused on food as well. We played our rhythm sticks to "Five Little Hotdogs" that had our friends counting down from five to one.







Our big and small muscles got a workout as we shook up our pudding and butter.






We observed the differences between what the ingredients looked like orginially and how they changed to become something new and yummy!
Science and food go together in preschool!


We played in the rice table which provided a great sensory experience each day.













Art projects used many different materials as we created food-based projects. Everyone participated in the creative activities and enjoyed their special take-home pictures.

Chuck E Cheese & Zoo Animals

We got rained out of the Zoo, but made a detour to Chuck-E-Cheese instead to stay dry and have some fun. Thanks to all our Moms, Dads, and Grandparents who took the time to come with us.













Having the place all to ourselves for a couple hours allowed us to run and play with abandon. It also gave the grown-ups a chance to visit and get to know one another.











Earlier in the week, we talked about our favorite zoo animals. We painted stripes on zebra outlines with popsicle sticks. Wild animal stamps and ink pads made a zoo on paper.




Cole brought some truly "wild" animals in to share - Tadpoles!





We read some funny zoo stories. Goodnight Gorilla was a huge hit. Borrow it from your library and read it at home!

Dinosaurs

This week we went back in time to take a look at Dinosaurs.







We used many informational books for our resources and enjoyed studying the illustrations and variety of animals shown.







Using those illustrations as inspiration, we painted our own versions of dinosaurs.





We buried dinos in the sand table so they could fossilize for later discovery!



We build zoos and other holding spaces for our dinos with the wooden building blocks.








A group art project used torn paper and glue to cover a "large" dinosaur for our classroom wall.


For the very special Mom's in our lives, we made a simple handprint as a keepsake. We hope you all have a blessed Mother's Day.

Derby Horses

We got into the Kentucky Derby festivities a bit this week with our unit on Horses.

We made our own versions of Jockey Caps and ran a race around the room, galloping towards the finish line.

Learning about the various parts of a horse expanded our vocabulary and

we were most interested in the process of shoeing a horse. We couldn't think of another animal that wears shoes!








We painted some vibrantly colored horses and traced around real horseshoes at the art table.








Our scissor skills were put to the test as we cut out three different sized horses and glued them onto a larger sheet of paper.



Cutting on a curved line is much more challenging than fringing the edge or cutting along a straight line. Our friends are really working on those challenges.
