Pumpkins

We dug into our subject this week with spoons, scoops, and our bare hands!

Pumpkins are so interesting and we used our senses to investigate them. We had some good guesses as to what might be inside this large pumpkin.

The letter "Pp" was our focus for writing.

We tried our sink and float again and we were surprised at what happened.

We used our pumpkins for decorating, hammering, counting, and more.

Look at these sparkly pumpkins. Glue and glitter made this art project very popular with our friends.

We "weighed" this pumpkin in our arms - heavy!

Our scissor skills got a work out as we tried to cut curved lines. Very tricky stuff.

We used our smallest pumpkins as stencils and practiced tracing them and adding ribs and stems (two parts of every pumpkin).

It was a fun week full of orange and there's more to come next week too.

Apples - Part II

Another week of Apples had us trying a few new tricks. We used a very interesting tool called an Apple-Peeler-Corer-Slicer.

Everyone had a chance to try it out and eat some yummy apple rings we made.

It took some real muscle to do, but it was fun!

We used our smaller muscles to write and create at the art table all week.

The letter Aa got our attention this week and we carefully drew our own version.

We practiced our Math skills counting tiny apples that we glued onto paper. Some papers had almost 20 apples to count!

Check out the science experiment. We took a group of items (including apples) and guessed if they would sink or float. Can you tell what happened to the apples?

Our friends are very careful with the materials at the art table. They enjoy working on their pieces and having finished projects to take home.

Apples

What a week full of "tasty" activities! We talked about Apples this week and did some investigating.

We looked at different types of apples (brought in by all our friends) and used some for tracing. It was so interesting to watch how each child approached this activity in their own, unique fashion.

We asked them to "trace" the apple shape and add a stem.

Tasting the different apples (red, yellow, and green) was the most popular activity of the week. Everyone was interested in trying at least one of the "colors".

At group time, we dissected an apple to see all the different parts of the fruit.
We named the peel (or skin), flesh, core, seeds, and stem.

We used the apples themselves for printing with tempera paint, and used apple-colored watercolor paints for one-ok-a-kind pieces.

There was a lot of interest in creating this week which was especially fun.

A special treat was a visit from the Lafayette Fire Department on Tuesday.

We were able to view and climb through the fire truck. We listened carefully to the firefighters talk to us about fire safety and explain all about their special gear.

Pets

It was raining cats and dogs at school this week! We had a fun week talking about out pets and practicing some new skills during center time.

We counted out animals stickers to coordinate with the numerals on our paper. This was pretty tricky work for most of our friends, but they worked hard .

We matched alphabet blocks to the letters in several catagories of pets. This pre-reading practice was completed with enthusiasm!

Another counting activity was held at group time when we made a graph of our favorite pets. We each chose our favorites and placed them in the correct column. Then we counted each column to find the "winner".

Art activities included water-color paintings of animal cut-outs.

We colored and stamped.

We laced animal cards.

One of our favorite things all week - we worked in our sensory table full of birdseed!

Friends

We spent our week talking about, playing with, and working alongside our friends at school.

Counting was fun as we used stamps and stickers to show the large number of friends we all have.

Playdough, cognitive games, and art were opportunities for working alone and with friends.

One of our favorite things was looking at our first class book of the year. We each have a page with our picture and name. It's a fun book to share and helps us to match our friends names with their smiling faces.

Outside time was still very warm, but fun as we made good use of all the playground has to offer.

Family

We made thumb-print pictures of our families, by listing the number of people who live in our house and then making a print for each person. We added limbs and features with markers to create a one-of-a-kind family picture!

Ms. Amy helped us to count and label.

We used paint, markers, stamps & ink, and scissors to create this week. Most of our activities are designed to provide the experience, not necessarily a product.

We really enjoyed sharing about our families at Group Time. Everyone is so proud to tell the names of the people they love so much. It was a very nice time of sharing and listening.
